The advent of software defined networking (SDN) is changing the way transport networks are handled and Network Functions are moving towards software-centric cloud deployments. The vision is a network built on a common hardware controlled by software that requires very little, if any, manual intervention. Many of the earlier vertically integrated function are now being transferred to virtual machines and containers. Cloud innovations have had a major impact on the IT industry. But how much technologies and tools developed for IT or web services will apply to network softwarisation ?
